Adventure in Umu

Adventure in Umu

Day 1.

After a warm welcome from our guide, your adventure begins at the UMU Cultural Interpretation Center. You will be shown your accommodation, which is one of the two following options: a guest stay with Kichwa families or accomodation on the campsite, whichever you prefer. Before continuing your adventure, you will be part of a traditional energy cleansing ritual from the yachak. Then, we will go for a brisk walk to explore the local flora and fauna until we reach the UMU lagoon. Here you can observe, explore and feed a variety of fish, including paiche and pacu. You will enjoy exquisite local cuisine that has been prepared with local ingredients, such as maitos which is a specialty. After a rest in the look-out cabin, we will visit our interpretation museum and learn about everything related to our Kichwa culture. We will learn about various ancestral techniques on how to set traps in the forest. From there, we will go for a canoe trip in the Manga allpa cocha lagoon and we will learn how to use a rowing canoe. Also, we will practice fishing and hunting in the river. At night, a delicious dinner will be prepared. We will take an evening walk and enjoy a cultural night around the campire with a delightful welcome drink.

Day 2.

Breakfast will be served early in the morning, whereafter we will join a local family to the chakra and help them with the harvesting of local products. You will learn how to make the traditional drink of chicha de yuca. Also, we will visit the local crafts market to see a wide variety of colorful fabrics that are made with seeds from the forest.
We will participate and practice the traditional techniques of gold panning in the river.

Finally, a buffet lunch will be served before we come to the end of our tour.
